Why is my chinchilla sitting still, squeaking, not eating or drinking?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My juvenile male chinchilla has been acting strange all day, and now all he is doing is sitting still and squeaking, and he won't move. I tried giving him water but he only drank a bit. And he's been only eating very very small amounts. Please help as soon as you can, I'm really scared he's sick of dying.

Based on what you are describing it sounds as if your chinchilla is very ill. Because these animals are so small, anorexia for even a few days can be very dangerous. I would recommend taking him in to be evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. He may need a special Critical Care diet and fluids to get back to normal.
