My dog scratches at doors and trash cans all day. How do I stop it?

My 5 year old spanel scratches at the door all day to go outside and try to find lizards. When she goes outside, she scratch es at the trash cans, because she has seen thme there before. She would do this all day, if we let her. How do I stop this behavior? Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Female | spayed | 5 years old | 33 lbs

The solution here is to redirect her into doing something else. Spend time playing fetch or get her a new, interesting toy (maybe one that you can hide a treat or peanut butter in).
