My dog is coughing and vomiting. Is something stuck in his throat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 7 months old | 33 lbs

Our dog is coughing like something is stuck in his throat. We think its a fishbone. What should we do? We tried every remedy we can look up in the net but to no avail. We tried giving him soft bread and lots of water but he just threw it up. He already vomitted all of his dinner. He will stop coughing but after a while he will start coughing heavily again. He stopped coughing for now but we're still worried.

If the suspicious is a foreign body (fishbone) stuck in the airways I recommend to seek veterinarian attention asap, this is an emergency situation. The vet will explore the upper airways and remove the foreign body. In the meantime keep Zarek calm to reduce his stress in this difficult situation. Good luck. Please post again on the forum if you would like to discuss it further. I hope my answer was helpful.
