My dog has ear infections from licking. Why are both dogs vomiting?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Dogue de Bordeaux | Female | unspayed | 120 lbs

I have two full grown mastiffs. One of the dogs gets constant ear infections no matter what we do, her name is Ruby, but we realised it might be the other dog licking in her ears constantly, her name is Missy. No matter what we do we can't get Missy to stop licking Ruby's ears. Now both of them have been throwing up bile for quite sometime. Could the ear infection in Ruby cause them both to vomit bile since Missy is constantly licking it?

Poor pups! The constant ear infections definitely could be secondary to Missy licking them constantly. I would not expect the vomiting be secondary to this usually. You could try to feed them some plain boiled boneless, skinless chicken and white rice to see if this helps. Also, if you opened up a bag of dog food around the time they both started vomiting, you may have a bad bag. I would consider opening up a new bag. Since it has been going on for quite some time, I would strongly recommend to have your vet take a look at them both. Your vet could do a fecal, blood work or even x-rays to see what is causing the vomiting and start them both on meds to help them feel better. I hope this helps!
