My 6 month old puppy has a skin allergy, I think? I started giving her Benedryl twice a day & giving her a bath with a itch solution shampoo. I started 2 days ago. Is there anything else I can do from home?

From home this is pretty much it, allergies are usually non responsive to these treatments and can be cause by various factors, eventually if this problem do remain the same or worse i would recommend taking Sofia to the vet in order to get it treated.

Hi there! You can try antihistamines but they don't usually work all that well in dogs. If taken long term they also tend to lose their effect. Benadryl is 1 milligram per pound of body weight twice a day. At her young age are you sure it's allergies? It could be fleas...... If allergies are showing up this young it may be diet related. I would recommend bathing her in a shampoo like this one: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Veterinary-Formula-Clinical-Care-Hot-Spot-and-Itch-Relief-Medicated-Shampoo-for-Dogs-and-Cats-16-fl-oz/24885757 And get a HEPA air purifier for your house to reduce allergens in the air: https://www.walmart.com/browse/home-improvement/air-purifiers/1072864_133032_1231459_46324 Finally, treat with flea prevention like Pet Armour or Frontline: https://www.walmart.com/ip/PetArmor-Plus-Dog-4-22-lb/42425086 I hope this helps. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask! Dr. Amber

Hello there and thank you for your post! For at home treatment of allergies, which is what it sounds like you are describing, you can administer Benadryl (diphenhydramine) safely. The typical dose is 1mg per 1 lb of body weight every 12 hours. I would also recommend bathing with a shampoo such as Duoxo PS Calm shampoo twice weekly. I would consider starting Nunui on Welactin omega 3 fish oil and essential 6 spot on by dermoscent. If there is no improvement, then I would have your veterinarian examine her to determine what the next course of treatment should be. I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I am also available via consultation if needed.
