My new ferret is vomiting after eating, should I call the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Small Animal | Unknown - Small Animal | Female | spayed | 2 months and 10 days old | 1lb

I bought a new ferret yesterday. Ever since i got her, she can’t seem to hold her food down. She eats and then throws it up within minutes of eating. Should i be concerned or is it just caused by a change of food?

It could be stress related to the new home, but given her age, she should be examined by your veterinarian tonight. A young ferret can quickly become dehydrated which may complicate any underlying condition(s). Discontinue solid food for now and offer just a tablespoon or two of water or unflavored PediaLyte every hour until Josie sees the doctor.
