My cat still has scabs after flea treatment and diet change. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 2 years and 3 months old | 7 lbs

My cat has these oval shaped scabs along her back. I had a flea problem a few months ago which has been treated and I’ve switched her food to a limited ingredient diet (rabbit and peas) and I’ve noticed an improvement since then in how shiny her coat is, energy, and even runny eyes etc but still nothing with the scabs. I’m not sure what else I can do?

If Hazel has developed a secondary skin infection from the fleas, then she may need antibiotics to resolve the infection. I would recommend having your veterinarian examine her skin to determine if they think she has a secondary skin infection and decide on the best treatment for her. Good luck! I hope that was helpful.
