Why is my rescue kitten lethargic with diarrhea, bloated belly, and leg lift?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 1lb

I posted this morning about our rescue kitten eating crazy amounts of food and I wanted to follow up. She’s had diarrhea for multiple days, been into the vet for lethargy and low glucose levels and they gave her a dewormer there. Her belly is super bloated and she keeps lifting her back leg off the ground like she’s going to lick it but she just leaves it in the air. We’re just fostering her and trying not to get another huge vet bill but we need a healthy kitty!

I am so sorry that Koa is going through this. Regarding her belly I would say she most likely has intestinal parasites and it is a great thing that the vet dewormed her. If they did not run a stool sample I would recommend running one since not all parasites are covered under all dewormers. Regarding the lifting of her leg. I am wondering if they took blood on that hind limb. Typically with kittens that is where we get blood from and it may be bothering her. No need to be alarmed if this is the case it just needs time to heal (like when we get blood). Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
