My cat couldn't walk after a bath. How do I safely bathe my dirty cat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Persian | Female | spayed | 2 years and 10 months old | 6.6 lbs

My cat is 2 years and 10 months old. I gave her bath when she was about a year old, in summers and even with warm water but after the bath she couldn't walk for two days. Her legs didn't seem to work. After that I never gave her a bath till now, out of the fear that same might happen again. But now she is quite dirty. What should I do?

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Bathing should not cause inability to walk unless you used a product that is toxic (which can be easily accidently done when using a flea shampoo in cats), or if your Paro inhaled some water. I would suggest just being very gentle with the water, and not spraying any water directly on the face. Use a non-medicated shampoo. Best of luck with Paro.
