My cat threw up on new food. Should I try it again or stick with old?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 11 months and 10 days old | 12.5 lbs

Hello! My 1 year old cat, Nugget, recently started eating a new brand of dry food (IAMS) and threw up for a couple days because of it. We did slowly mix the new and old food, but he still threw up. Now we are only giving him his old food (Purina) and he seems to be fine. Should we try to feed him the new food again or just stick with old? (It seems the IAMS brand is more nutritious, and we bought the kind with dieting/oral care, as these are both concerns for him) Thank you in advanced!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Nugget is adorable! Most Purina brands are great nutritious foods like proplan for example. I wouldn’t try the Iam’s again and stick with what he tolerates. Have a great day!
