I am so sorry for your loss. It is never easy to lose someone in the family. It is doubtful that this started strictly due to the hot weather. Some dogs who develop upper respiratory infections when the seasons change can sometimes develop pneumonia secondary to that. Pneumonias can also be contracted from viral infection, fungal infections, by aspirating something, bacteria, cancer, and much more. Unfortunately, without knowing the whole history it is difficult to say exactly what started or caused the pneumonia. Unfortunately, sometimes you can never figure out the cause of it. I hope this helps and again, so sorry for your loss. Hang in there.
