My 5-week-old kitten eats tons of wet food. How much is normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | unspayed | 1lb

We have what we believe to be a 5 wk kitten. How much should she be eating? She won’t take a bottle so we’ve been mixing the formula into her wet food but she will eat seriously about half a can of wet food every three hours. This can’t be normal?? We don’t want to over or under feed her! If we try to feed her any less she just yells until she gets more.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! So cute! Koa maybe trying to make up for lost time! I would bring her in to the Vet for an exam and deworming. Intestinal parasites may be competing with her nutritional needs. At 5 weeks I do not think you need to use the formula any more. I would feed her 3-4 times per day and leave some dry food down. Be sure you are feeding kitten food. I wish you and Koa the very best!
