My cat fell from the balcony. How to prevent her from falling again?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 7 months and 22 days old | 2.75 lbs

So my cat fell from my balcony like a month ago she's a lot better now but my problem is she still is jumping on the windows and balconies and might fall again I'm scared what should I do? Should I close the windows always but I feel like I would take away her freedom by that and she always looks happy when on the balcony and she becomes depressed when we close it.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Great pictures! She does look every comfortable out there. But this is a huge risk, she may not be as lucky next time she falls. You can consider putting a harness and leash on her and only allowing her on the balcony when you are able to be with her and hold the leash. It you are allowed to, you could install a safety fence or guard on the balcony. I would caution you to allow this to continue. I wish you and Moca the best!
