What is this itchy bump on my senior cat's head near her ear?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My cat has a bump on the right side of her head near her ear. She is 15 years old so I’m getting a little concerned seeing as it has not gone away for a few months. It has not gotten bigger as far as I can tell but it’s seems to be itchy to her because every once in a while there will be a scab on it. The first photo is when I first noticed it in March and the second is from just now.

This is a skin growth and is not going to go away without surgery. That being said, I’m not sure I would rush into surgery on an older cat for what is most likely a benign growth that is more of a nuisance than it is a health problem. I would monitor it, keep it clean and if it is really a constant bother to her, discuss the potential of surgery to remove it with your veterinarian.
