My dog has bleeding pink sores around his whiskers. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Male | neutered | 35 lbs

5 year old English/french bulldog mix, noticed he has little pink "sores" around whiskers most notably on the right that were bleeding, washed his face off with water and these didn't re-bleed. This has happened before but I had thought it was trauma from roughhousing with larger dog but I'm on a road trip with only this pup and noticed the bleeding. May have been going on for a while and I just never noticed it was from his whiskers. Is this "normal" he is a picky eater but otherwise healthy.

It may be localized infection or inflammation. Keep the area clean and dry. If you see him rubbing or pawing at his muzzle, place an e-collar (cone) on him. This, along with the cleaning, may be enough to allow healing. If not, have Felipe examined by your veterinarian upon your return or a vet on your travels if it worsens. It could be travel stress related as well.
