My puppy's vulva and legs are sticky after peeing. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 8 days old

Hi I've got a 10 week old cockapoo she was a little sticky on her back legs and belly when I bought her so gave her a bath ever since it keeps happening. I'm getting worried that something might be wrong. I've noticed her vulva is also sticky and it's like her wee gets stuck to her legs when she pees and then she doesn't clean herself so it makes her belly sticky.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Willow. She may have a condition known as puppy vaginitis. It is very common. I would asked her veterinarian at her next check up. If this is the case, it typically resolves by the time she is spayed. She can trim the hairs near her vulva and keep her clean by wiping her with a damp cloth several times per day. If she is straining to urinate, has blood in her urine or is acting ill, then it could indicate a bladder infection. In that case, she would need to seen soon. I hope this information helps!
