Why does my cat have a puffy chin, drooling, and sores on tongue/nose?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 11 lbs

Hi there, I noticed our 8 yo cat had a slightly puffy chin and was dribbling a bit. Two weeks later he has 2 red ulcers on the side back and front of his tongue and one on his nose. The nose one started out as a small brown module but then turned red. He’s still eating but is very cautious and slow, and obviously sore. The drool and discharge is very smelly. I’m pretty sure he hasn’t got his nose into anything untoward so am not sure what it could be. Thanks so much.

This sounds as a condition called eosinphylic granuloma, it's an autoimmune reaction of the body and it requires to be treated with medications that your vet can prescribe once he confirms the diagnosis.
