Dog's paw infected after nail removal. Does he need an emergency vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pug | Male | unneutered | 4 years and 1 month old | 24 lbs

Dog had nail removed a week ago and the foot seems to be infected. My pug’s foot is swollen and some yellow liquid oozed out once today. He is not eating nor moving a lot so I assume he’s in a lot of pain. His foot shakes while lying down too. Should I take him to an emergency vet tonight or can it wait until the morning?

I am sorry to hear about Gizmo. While this condition may not be life threatening it does sound like he is in a good deal of discomfort so I would consider a trip to the emergency vet if you feel he is in this much pain.
