My 6-month puppy is dizzy and vomiting. Is it an ear infection?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 8 lbs

My puppy is 6 months I've never cleaned her ears because I'm not sure how and I don't want to hurt her but I'm starting to think this can be affecting her health. Yesterday she randomly threw up and started swaying back and forth dizzy, this is the third time it happens. She fell asleep and would whine in her sleep.I'm starting to think she has an ear infection. I will get blood tests done on her but I'm just wondering if this could be a reason? Thank you ! and she is eating, drinking and going.

I am sorry to hear about Nina. Unless she has a history of ear infections, then this is not likely her issue. Many dogs don't need their ears cleaned at all as the ear in a healthy dog doesn't usually need to be cleaned. Signs of ear infection include an odor and discharge from the ears, redness and pain of the ear canal, shaking the head, scratching and rubbing the ears. If she hasn't had these signs, this is not likely due to her ears and she should see the vet for an examination.
