Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Male | neutered
Hi there, My 9 year old chihuahua has been pooping tarry bloody stool for the last 5 days. It has a strong iron smell. He isn't vomiting, no lethargy but he does like to lick the floor like he is trying to eat clay. I gave him some activated charcoal and he eat the pill happily. He has lost weight over the last month (3.85kgs to 3.46kgs) because he was becoming picky with his food and didn't want to eat his kibbles. I have since changed his food to chicken and vegetables, which he will eat.

I highly recommend taking Frankie to a veterinarian. He needs fluids and blood work. It can be pancreatitis, a bleeding ulcer, parvo, intestinal parasites, etc. It is something where a physical examination and further diagnostics are warranted. There is nothing over the counter I would recommend giving, I would recommend just going to a vet. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
