Why is my cat having diarrhea after lowering prednisolone dose?

Can lowering the dosage of prednisolone cause diarrhea in cats?

Hi there. If Beau is on prednisolone to treat a chronic GI issue such as inflammatory bowel disease or something similar, then yes - lowering his dosage could certainly cause diarrhea or other symptoms to recur. If he was on it for something unrelated to this, then I would not expect decreasing his dosage to cause diarrhea "out of the blue" - so in that case, it's likely that there is some other cause.

    Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If Beau is eating, not straining to defecate, and not vomiting I would assume the increased dosage is working. I wouldn't decrease the dose with out speaking to your Vet specifically. Being on the higher dose for just 3 days may not be enough time to get him to a better place before decreasing. If he isn't eating well, is straining to poop and is vomiting he could be constipated and he should be seen. Good luck!
