Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 2 years and 7 months old | 44 lbs

My dog is almost 3 years old. When we adopted her almost 2 years ago, she had just recovered from mange. her hair has been thinning on her back. And now there are open bleeding sores on Her back. Any idea what this could be?

I am sorry to hear about Arabelle. The most common cause of these symptoms in this area would be a flea allergy dermatitis with a secondary bacterial skin infection. We can also have hair loss due to environmental or food allergies, or endocrine diseases (such as hypothyroidism). I would recommend making an appointment for her vet to examine her as these cases often require oral antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medication to get the infection and itch under control.
