Ideally he would eat four times a day. At the least, he should be fed three times a day. It's best to feed a quality puppy food that is specifically formulated for puppies and it should be fed according to the manufacturers recommendations - they will have the daily recommended amount per body weight. Keep in mind that the amount recommended is normally based on a daily amount, so you should divide that amount into 3- 4 meals per day. Hi there and thank you for your question. First, to answer your question about feeding two or three times daily. Over the years in my practice I have seen many puppies fed both ways. And these puppies look and act healthy and happy. As long as the owners are feeding the same total daily amount required to maintain healthy weight, You can feed either two or three times daily based on your schedule and what is convenient to you. Second, to answer your question about how much to feed. I try and keep this answer as simple as possible. During the first year that they are a puppy, I recommend weighing them each week on an accurate scale. After you obtain their weight and you feel as if their body condition score is ideal, please look on the back of your bag of food and feed the amount of food they recommend for that age and that weight of your animal. Hello and thank you for reaching out to Boop by Petco. I would continue to feed her the small breed puppy food at the recommended amount on the bag. Puppy food is calorie-dense, so as to meet the energy needs of high-energy puppies. You can try breaking the amount into smaller, more frequent meals (ie three or four times a day) so she feels like she is getting to eat more. I would not over-feed her for fear of early onset obesity, which can lead to significant health issues later in life. You can also supplement her diet with healthy treats during the day such as carrots or green beans. After she is spayed, her energy requirements will decrease and she will need to be fed less food so she doesn't become overweight. I hope this is helpful!

My Alusky is 2 months old,our veterinarian told us to give him a meal 2x a day since our pet is on a diet. But our dog seems want to eat more. when do he able to eat 3x or more a day?? -thanks
With a puppy this young, feeding 3 times a day or even 4 small meals is fine. When dogs are older, we usually switch to two meals a day for convenience sake but the number of meals per day is less important than the total amount per day he is getting (i.e. if they are getting 2 cups total per day, it doesn't matter if you are giving 1 cup twice a day or 1/2 a cup four times a day as long as the total volume is the same). In puppies, they are energetic and often need to eat more frequently, so you can split his meals into smaller portions and give more often!

I have a 2 month old pug that is always hungry and always eating. What should I do, take away the food and feed him when it's time to eat or leave the food in the bowl and let him eat all he wants
You can try splitting his feedings into smaller more frequent meals. Another idea would be to get a slow feed food bowl to slow his eating down. I would also make sure that you are weighing him regularly and feeding according to the growth chart on the food. I would not recommend leaving the food down for him to eat all he wants. This could cause him bad GI upset or more serious issues like bloat. Hope this helps some. I'm not sure about what i should to feed my puppy?
Great question! At almost two months of age, Ooge is old enough to be fed a puppy formulated food. It has to be a puppy formulated food because puppies require higher amounts of protein, calcium, and calories than an adult dog. A puppy food will provide everything he needs to grow properly. Brands I recommend include Royal Canin, Hill's Science diet, Purina ProPlan, and Iams. On the bag, there is a daily recommended amount of food, and I would divide that into three equal portions to feed him three times a day, once in the morning, noon, and evening. Once he turns six months old, he can be fed twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. I hope this helps :-)

Congratulations on your new addition! At this age, you should be feeding him 3-4 times per day. The amount depends on the brand of food that you choose to feed. He should be eating puppy food, and if you check the bag, there will be a feeding chart, which will tell you the amount to feed for his weight. It depends entirely on the brand of food, the amount recommended are written on the food label that you are feeding her, it is the daily amount requirement so you would need to divide this amount by 4 if you are feeding her 4 times a day.

Hi, I have my 4 month old poodle, he is a standard. I just wanted to know what do you recommend me to feed him so he is getting the right amount of food. And how much, right now I feed him 2 cups a day and he still stays very hungry.
I would feed Charley according to the instructions on his food bag label, as each food has a different recommended daily amount. He needs to be fed a puppy formulated food, as he needs higher amounts of calories, protein, and calcium than an adult dog, and a puppy food will provide that. I would also feed him three times a day. Divide the daily amount recommended on his bag into three equal portions and feed him morning, noon, and evening. Make sure he's up to date on his deworming treatments, as having intestinal parasites will make him hungry all the time.
