My healthy dog is a picky eater and won't eat her food. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Female | spayed | 8 months and 27 days old | 55 lbs

She seems to be a very picky eater and won’t eat all her recommend amount of food and it takes her a while to eat. You have to coax her with eggs. Could she not like the food we give her? She’s healthy in everyway. What recommendations do you have?

Hi. I would recommend trying a different high quality food to explore if there is one she may like better. Science diet, royal canin, Iams, and Purina are the top quality brands. I would also make sure she has had a full exam, especially of mouth, and labwork, as well as a fecal sample test just to be sure there isn't another obvious cause of decreased appeitie.
