Why is my unvaccinated puppy vomiting, dizzy, and losing balance?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | unspayed | 8 lbs

Today my 6 month old puppy was running energetic like always and she stopped threw up and started swaying back and forth dizzy loosing her balance. I'm worried because she has none of her shots im barley going to take her this Saturday for a DHPPL shot. This is the third time it happens I took her to the vet but they said she was fine. She eats and drinks but I've noticed she doesn't really like her kibble "Merrik classic puppy recipe" could this be it? thank you for your help!

Hi. This is definitely not normal. I would be concerned she has episodes of low glucose, a neurologic condition she may have been born with, or another possibility is an infection that is affecting her neurologic system. I recommend she get a full blood panel, try another food to entice her to eat more, and have a full neurologic exam done by your veterinarian or a neurologic specialist. Having none of her shots does put infection high on the list.

Poor Dizzy! If she is weak and vomiting then she needs medical care from a veterinarian. She may need some IV fluids to prevent dehydration, antibiotics, and an anti-vomiting medications. Your vet could test a stool sample to see if she has parvo virus or an intestinal parasite causing the problem. If she is sick then she can't be vaccinated until she is better. Call your vet and discuss possible treatment. Hope she feels better soon!
