My 8-week-old kitten has goopy eyes. What can I do if she's not sick?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed

I reached about an 8 week old kitten from a dog last night and her eyes are sort of goopy. I am pretty sure that the dog didn't get her in the face. I think the kitten may have been abandon for awhile. The kitty doesn't appear sick what can I do for its eyes?

Hello. Most of these kitties have a viral infection of the eyes often complicated with a secondary bacterial component. Other than keeping the eyes clear by gently cleaning with warm water a few times a day, there is not much more you can do except having the kitten seen & treated by a veterinarian. With the proper medications, the kitten will start to feel & look better pretty quickly. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Continue cleaning the eyes at least twice a day for now to remove any excess discharge and continue the medication as recommended. It may take several days for the eyes to begin to clear up. Sometimes these young kittens with respiratory viruses also need a systemic antibiotic to get them over the illness. If the kitten is not improving in 3-5 days then I would recommend taking her in to be rechecked by your veterinarian. I hope this helps.
