Is vaginal discharge in my female dog normal? When to see a vet?

My dog has something coming out of her vagina. Is this normal?

This is not normal and could be a variety of causes. We can have a vaginal hyperplasia (especially in unspayed females), tumors in the vagina, hermaphrodite dogs with an enlarged clitoris, and prolapses of vagina and uterus. I would make an appointment to see your vet and if she is licking at the area put an e-collar on her until she is seen to prevent self-trauma. Treatment will depend on the cause. Best of luck!

    Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Dogs do not typically have a vaginal discharge unless this means an infection for example or when unspayed dogs are in heat that do have a bloody discharge that is expected. Good luck and have a good night!
