My dog has a recurring mark. Is it a scratch, rash, or infection?

I've noticed this on my dog a few times over the months, not sure if she scratched herself or if it's a rash type of Mark.what does this look like to you?

I agree that it could either be a scratch, or possibly a skin infection. If it is recurring at the same time then I am more suspicious of an infection. That could be some sort of wound or infection. Protect the area from scratching by having her wear an elizabethan collar. Don't worry about putting anything on it. Healthy dogs should be able to heal superficial wounds. If it does not start looking significantly better within 7 days or if it starts to get worse, have Chloe examined by the veterinarian. I am suspicious that this could be a lesion caused by either demodex mite or ringworm. I would highly encourage you to have a follow up appointment with your veterinarian. A skin scrape can be done to look for mites, they may consider a trial anti mite therapy in addition to an a topical anti fungal medication. Hi, and thanks for your question. This could be due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). That looks more like a skin infection than a laceration but I suppose an abrasion is possible. For a wound like this, you may cleanse it once a day with a baby wipe. After it is dry, you can apply a dab or organic coconut oil and rub it in well twice a day (don't get it in her eyes or ears). If it doesn't start getting much better in a week, have her examined by the veterinarian. Regarding the fleas, top products for dogs are oral products such as Simparica and Nexgard. Top products for cats are topicals such as Revolution and Cheristan. There is also an oral product called Comfortis that both dogs and cats can take. You will need to switch all the pets over to a good flea product. Make sure to discuss these products with your veterinarian first. These products are generally safe for all pets but there are some conditions which are contraindicated for the oral products. Cleaning up and treating the house and yard will also help but it will not clear all the fleas. The main control is

It is hard to tell from the picture, but if her nose is affected as well then I would be more concerned. Not could be just an infection but the location make me more concerned about an immune mediated disorder affecting the skin. If the antibiotics don’t resolve the problem then I would encourage you to biopsy the skin. This is the best chance at getting you an answer and to stream line the best course of treatment. New Pet
A freckle type mark has appeared quite quickly on my 5month old puppy Ted. Just wondering if it is a freckle or something more serious? At present doesn’t seem to be bothering him.
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! This looks like a focal infection. You can try to use a medicated shampoo containing chlorhexidine twice weekly for 2 weeks. If there is no improvement or in the meantime this appears to be getting worse, have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a good night!

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. Judging from the pictures and description, I would say this is likely a bacterial skin infection (bacterial pyoderma). I would recommend starting the following: 1. Douxo PS chlorhexidine combination shampoo and bathe twice weekly until the infection is resolved 2. Malacetic conditioning spray and apply to the area 2 to 3 times per day until resolved 3. Welacti omega 3 fish oil 4. Essential 6 spot on by dermoscent If the skin condition does not improve or worsens then I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at this for further testing and treatment. I'm worried about this that appeared on my dog, what is it?
Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach! From the picture you have attached, I would suspect a bacterial skin infection, chronic wound, burn or contact dermatitis from something irritating. I noticed a spot on my dog's ear .. can't tell if it's an area she scratched raw, or a bite from another dog. Doesn't seem to bother her at all. I put some Bacetracin ointment on it.
Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. If the area that you are describing is just a small cut or sore, I would monitor this for now. If she is scratching at the area, I would suggest picking up a plastic cone to put around her head so that she does not make this worse. I would also recommend using zymox topical ointment, which can be found online. If you notice any swelling or signs of discharge like pus then I would have this examined by a veterinarian as treatment Maybe required such as oral and topical antibiotic therapy. I hope this helps!
