Why does my dog have dark red splotches on his stomach?

This is probably an allergic reaction due to an insect bite or a plant outside. those reactions tend to resolve within 48 hours without treatment. if the rash becomes too large or if your dog is lethargic, take Louie to the vet in order to get an antihistamine injection.

    This looks like staining from either Rocky always getting a little urine on himself when he pees or form him chronically licking this area. From the pictures, the skin doesn't look red or irritated but if it does, I would have your vet take a look at it. You could also have the hair shaved in that area to prevent urine from getting on that area if you discover that is the cause. If it is from licking, you could try some Benadryl twice a day.     This could be allergy related, a bacterial or fungal or parasitic infection. You will need to take your dog to a vet for a skin exam. The vet may want to do a skin scrape or swab to facilitate diagnosis. Each of these conditions require a different treatment, so the correct diagnosis is vital before treatment.
