My dog has Babesia canis. Is it Brucella? What is this disease?

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | 2 years and 5 months old

My dog came positive with babesia canis so what is it ? In blood smear report under protozoa it came b.canis+ sonis it brucella or babesia canis

Hello, It is Babesia not Brucella. Babesia is a protozoal parasite that attacks the red blood cells of dogs causing anemia. You need to have Danny treated for Babesia as soon as possible. Typically, patients are treated with imidocarb. Please follow up with your veterinarian to discuss therapy.

    It is babesia canis; anemia is not present now but only thrombocytopenia which is a common finding in babebiosis. Anemia could develop on a later stage. Diagnosis should be confirmed (qPCR on EDTA blood) and treatment started.
