My dog stepped on a thumbtack. What should I put on the paw?

Pet's info: Dog | Portuguese Water Dog | Male | neutered | 2 years and 6 months old | 70 lbs

Dog stepped on thumb tack. I took it out. He’s fine but should i put anything on it? Has a puncture but never any blood/

The first thing you should do is flush the wound with high pressure using a syringe with warm water for five minutes. This may not be easy, because dogs tend to hate this, so I recommend having someone help you with holding Max to make sure the wound gets flushed well. Infection is the biggest concern with these wounds, so it's best to flush the wound twice a day for the next two days. If the wound starts to swell or have pus oozing from it, then I'd recommend he goes to the vet for treatment. Otherwise, the wound should heal fine over the next week. I hope that helps and Max gets better soon.
