My dog's spay incision looks yellow and has pus. Does she need a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed

Hi, my rescue was spayed about 2 1/2 weeks ago, and she came home to use a week ago. I've kept an eye on her scar, and was healing fine but now looks a bit yellow and pussy? Is this a trip to the vets or can I clean at home?

This is definitely not normal 2.5 weeks after the surgery was done, an infection is present, probably due to a negative reaction to the suture material. this will require a vet visit i'm afraid, she will need to be put on a course of antibiotics.
