Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 51 lbs
My elderly dog was recently diagnosed with diabetes. Upon initial blood testing, her sugar was over 600. She is now home and stable, and we are looking for a suitable and safe chew for her as she is an avid chewer. I purchased compact starch chews, because they will break down and not impact the G.I. tract. But now I’m worried that the starch content is not good for her. What should I do?

Hi there. With diabetic dogs, diet doesn't actually make a huge difference - there is no evidence that feeding a particular diet, or avoiding a particular type of treat, is necessary to control their blood sugar. What's most important is that you stay fairly consistent about what you feed her (and how much), and that you give her insulin injections as directed by your veterinarian. So it's unlikely that the starch chews will cause any significant problems with her diabetes. You could also consider using large, all-natural rawhide chews such as the ones from Raw Feeding Miami, bully sticks, or cow or pig's ears as treats for her to chew on. As long as this doesn't make up a significant part of her diet, I wouldn't expect it to cause any issues. https://www.rawfeedingmiami.com/collections/treats
