Why is my 2-month-old Labrador puppy suddenly losing hair and weight?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | unneutered | 1 month and 26 days old | 6 lbs

My Labrador puppy is 56 days old. He suddenly started losing lots of hairs, specially furs since the last three days. His stool is okay as well as his urine. Seems like he has lost a little bit of weight. Appetite is fine. Vet has given him multivitamins. But there was one time when his stool looked a little weird. Attaching photos. What can be reasons of sudden hair loss and possibly weight.? No fever

He may be losing hair due to a mite called demodex. This mite is a normal mite in the hair follicle. When dogs are stressed or they are growing the mite can over grow causing hairloss. I would have your veterinarian skin scrape Rico for that mite. The stool in the pictures may be from intestinal parasites and I would recommend having your vet check his stool for a parasites. I would also recommend having them give Rico a general dewormer. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
