Pet's info: Dog | Toy Poodle | Male | neutered | 13 years and 1 month old | 23 lbs
My dog Oreo has been vomiting most of what he eats for the past 6 days. We took him to the vet yesterday and he was given nausea medication. The vet thought he would be fine since he had no temp and his exam went well. But he's still vomiting today. He's a 13 year old poodle who is normally very playful and has a good appetite. However, he did have cataracts removed from both eyes 4 weeks ago and finished antibiotics a few days ago. Could that be the culprit?

Six days of straight vomiting is quite concerning, particularly in an older dog like Oreo. Since he just had cataracts removed, I am going to operate under the assumption they probably did some pre-anesthetic blood work and would have told you if they found anything of concern. While four weeks is enough time to elapse for something new to show up, if there was a condition that was somewhere chronic in nature I would have expected at least some mild indicators of disease on this blood work. Given the symptoms have only just begun in the last week, I doubt the antibiotics are the culprit. Vomiting for that length of time in an older dog usually makes me think of foreign object ingestion, kidney / liver disease, or some type of cancer in or around the GI tract. I would recommend diagnostic imaging in the form of x-rays and/or ultrasound to rule in / out certain processes. If nothing is found to explain the vomiting, the doctor may recommend referral for an endoscopy of the upper / lower GI tract. Hope this makes sense.
