Puppy got fire ant bites. How to treat and when to see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 2 months and 6 days old

My 9 week old puppy just got into a fire ant bed and had them all over her. I gave her a bath and she seems okay but is occasionally biting her skin places. She also had them in her mouth but I think I got all of them out. I'm not sure what the next best thing to do is. Will she be fine? What if she has any bites?

The bites may cause some inflammation and itchiness. If it is only mild irritation you may want to consider giving a dose of benedryl (1mg per pound of body weight) to her to help make her more comfortable. If the bites are severe however, she may need something more effective like steroids. If this is the case you will need to take Pecora to the vet to be checked out. I hope this helps. Best of luck.
