My lovebird's legs are dusky. Is this normal or a health concern?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Male | unneutered | 0.25 lbs

My lovebirds legs and feet are turning a dusky color and I’m worried. Nothing else is abnormal with him, but this has been a gradual but now very obvious change. Please help me!

Without seeing a photo, it is hard to tell if what you are seeing is abnormal. Some changes to the legs and body such as scaling or darkening pigment can occur naturally and aren't cause for concern. However, if you are seeing any bruising, the affected leg is bothersome or makes standing on a perch harder, or you notice any other signs of illness, then scheduling a vet checkup to rule out any issues is best.
