Pet's info: Dog | Havanese | Male | neutered | 10 lbs
Our dog, Oreo has been having some type of sneezing/coughing (not really sure how to describe it exactly) for awhile now. It happens randomly and he seems to be sort of choking and I believe it is harder for him to breathe until he stops. Sometimes he stops very quickly, other times it takes a few minutes. It has been going on for a long time and he seems to be fine, but I feel bad for him as it does not look very enjoyable and I’d love to figure out what’s wrong. Thanks!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Oreo. It sounds like he may be having fits of reverse sneezing. This is when the dog sneezes inwards instead of outwards. It sounds roughly like a snort. It can be common in small breed dogs with no underlying cause. Other dogs will do it upon excitement or in response to allergies or an upper respiratory tract infection. Most of the time if it is not accompanied by signs of illness, it is not a cause for concern. I hope this information helps!
