The most common causes for this in hamsters is either mites or ringworm, you will need to take him to the vet in order to get it checked and treated, it's more likely to be mites, the treatment is quite simple but ringworm needs to be ruled out first.

Causes of hair loss can include a number of things including allergies, parasites, illness, skin infections from bacteria, fungus or yeast, minor wounds, metabolic disease and more. Looking for signs of irritation such as redness, chewing of the affected areas, visible parasites, etc can help you narrow down possible causes. Making sure Chip is on a healthy diet, and has clean bedding can also help. If the hair loss continues, worsens, Chip is very bothered by it, or you see signs of irritation or wounds, having a local vet take a look at him is best.
