My dog can't open his eye and is lethargic. Should I call the vet?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 2 years old | 25 lbs

I think my dog has been nettled in or around the left eye, his symptoms at first were slight swelling, tears forming in eye, he was attempting to rub eye against my legs and bed and other soft furniture, this was last night, as of now he is struggling to open eye however swelling has gone down but he is very relaxed today, usually is an excitable dog, should I seek any further medical attention?

Yes, if he is reluctant to or struggling to open the eye, I would be very concerned that he may have a scratch or lesion on his cornea. His eye should be examined by a veterinarian to determine if that is a possibility. If so, he would require prescription eye medication.
