What's the most humane way to dispatch rats caught in live traps?

What’s the most humane way to kill a rat? We leave out live traps every night they catch around 3-4 rats every night we got live traps because snap traps didn’t work and glue traps didn’t catch enough live traps mean we have to kill them our selves I can’t watch my dad does it he chokes them by pushing a peice of wood against there throat till they die it only takes around a minute is This humane it’s so sad I wish they could be a quicker way is there? my dad won’t listen he hates rats
