Why is my dog dazed, falling, and showing elevated liver enzymes?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Poodle | Male | neutered | 70 lbs

My dog is a standard poodle, 5 year old Male. He had an episode where he fell over could not get up kept walking into wall and was dazed. No shaking. Rushed him to get, his ALT was extremely elevated and platelets low. No ingestion. Only thing that changed was he has been vomiting up his food about once every week or so, undigested. He is going to bathroom regularly. Soft stools. Test came back negative for lepo, limes, other tickborn diseases and negative for heart worms. Ekg was normal.

I would strongly recommend to have his bile acids ran to see if his liver is functioning properly. I would also recommend to have an abdominal ultrasound with possibly liver biopsies by an experience ultrasonographer or radiologist so you can find out more information about his liver. This could be due to a toxin that you are unaware of, copper storage disease, cancer, a bacterial infection or something else. I think more diagnostics need to be done to determine the cause and therefore the best treatment for him. I hope this helps!
