My cat's tail is broken, red, and losing hair. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi, my cat is injured, he is out door cat, but he is sleeping in house always, so couple of days ago he came and acted weird. I noticed that his tail is half broken, he wasn't eatning and drinking for about 2 days(i fed him) and now he is totally ok(he sleep more), but his tail looks very bad. I think that there is no open wounds, hair from tail is dropping off. This redness was very small first, but it started spreading. Hair is dropping off literally on touch now.Is this dangerous, what to do?

This needs to be examined by a veterinarian today. Please do not wait until after the weekend He will need pain medicine and antibiotics and the vet needs to check whether there is already infection present. He may even have to have part of his tail amputated. Please take him to a veterinarian NOW.
