My 3-month-old kitten is losing fur and has skin issues. What's wrong?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My cat have developed some skin problem. He is a 3 month old Persian kitten. He is losing fur .the pic of his skin is below. Is it fleas or some fungal or bacterial infection ? There is something on his tail also which is different from the rest of the problem however that blackish thing came off when I tried to remove it. I hope my cat won't go bald. Any idea what is happening with him? Will bathing her with Vivaldis Ketogaurd Forte anti fungal and bacterial shampoo for cats and dogs help?

I don't see any hard evidence of fleas although i can't rule it out and would recommend treating for them anyway, this looks more like either a fungal, bacterial infection or an allergic reaction. i would not recommend using this shampoo prior to getting this condition diagnosed by your vet.

This may be a skin infection. There are different types of skin infections and a veterinarian that can examine him in person can most likely tell the difference. If it is a fungal infection (ringworm), then yes it is contagious to you. You should schedule an exam for your kitten at your earliest opportunity. From these medications it seems like your vet is treating your kitten for fungas, possibly ringworm. If this is the case then it is transmissible to you and your family. Given the picture, I suspect that fleas may also be an issue although there is no way of knowing for sure without an exam. Speak to your veterinarian about getting your kitten on a good flea preventative.
