What are these red spots on my dog's genital area after being outside?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Labrador Retriever | Male | neutered | 10 months and 1 day old | 80 lbs

Early today my dog was outside laying and playing in the grass and when I came to bring him in I noticed a bunch of red spots around his gential area. They don’t look like bits more like itch spots. Like the size of a bingo stamper. I have no idea what it could be or what to do. Please help.

The most common reason that we will see marks like that show up on the non-haired skin of the abdomen are because of black fly or other insect bites. They do not generally tend to be itchy, but they can be. If any of the areas are becoming swollen, enlarging or appearing to spread, then Apollo should see your veterinarian. Otherwise, the areas tend to fade on their own. https://www.vin.com/veterinarypartner/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=7986755 Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Thanks for using PetCoach.
