Is my foster kitten's short neck, stiff walk, and silence a deformity?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | unneutered | 2 lbs

So I think my foster kitten may have some form of mild deformity or dwarfism or something. It's very odd and subtle, but his neck is ridiculously short. When you feel his shoulder bones it goes straight from the shoulders to the base of the head as though there is no neck. Maybe unrelated but he also always walks like he has a stick up his rear and I havent heard him peep even one tiny sound since I got him a week ago, not even when taking his temp. He is completely silent. Thoughts???

Hi there and thank you for posting this question. If he does have a cervical (neck ) deformity, then he may well likely have other vertebral deformities as well. If he walk abnormally I would encourage the rescue group to have their veterinarian examine him And take some spinal radiographs. Best of luck and I hope you get some helpful information from the x-rays. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
