Thank you for submitting your question regarding Tyson. Poor guy! He does look uncomfortable. I would continue everything you are doing treatment wise. Is the benzoyl peroxide cream a shampoo? If not, I would a shampoo as bathing can help. This helps to flush the mites out of the hair follicles. He will likely need an antibiotic as I suspect that he has developed a secondary bacterial infection. This is common. This should help the skin heal as the mites are treated. Good luck!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Tyson. Demodex is a normal mite for dogs. Most pups will acquire it from the mother. It lives in the hair follicles of the skin. Puppies, such as yours, will experience an overgrowth of the mites. This will lead to a secondary bacterial skin infection. He may require an antibiotic in addition to the treatment you are using for the mites. A medicated shampoo that flushes the hair follicles is very helpful as well. You would just not want to get it in his eyes. Look for a shampoo that contains benzoyl peroxide. This is not a disease contagious to humans. I hope this information helps!
