My dog is breathing hard and snorting after a seizure. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shih Tzu | Female | unspayed | 8 years and 7 months old | 14.33 lbs

My Shih Tzu has a seizure a day ago and was brought to the vet immediately. Apparently it was due to amenia. After getting her back from a day of confinement from the vet, she started always looking up and breathing hardly with frequent snorts during breathing. Should I be concerned? Or is it a regular thing dogs experience after a seizure?

No, this is not normal and may indicate she is having trouble moving enough air and oxygen around. I strongly recommend you contact your vets office and advise them of her progress, it is likely she requires additional treatment in order to stabilise her condition and may require a blood transfusion if very severely anemic
