My newborn kittens are wet. What should I do if mom ignores them?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Burmese | Male | 4 days old

i have new born kittens currently who are just 4 days old i kept them in a small house for them but their mom kept moving to places where i assume is not quite safe it just rained and all those kittens are now wet they are just 4 days old so i do not know how to handle them since they are too small their mom doesnt care as well. She would just go everywhere and leave her kids behind. Is there anything that can happen when kittens are wet? I've tried to clean them using tissues though.

Hi there and thanks for posting. Kittens can get very cold very easily especially when they are wet and not dried off properly. It appears you are trying to keep them clean and dry which is good. A warm clean towel can help dry them off if they get wet. What is also concerning is if the kittens are not nursing regularly. Very young kittens need to be nursing every hour or so. You may need to get some milk replacer from your local pet store and hand nurse the kittens if mom is distant from them. I hope this helps!
