My dog is vomiting Vetprofen for hip pain. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | unneutered | 100 lbs

Capi is an 8 year old rot mix with hip dsyplexia in his right hip. Has been vomiting once a day for two days straight. Thinking it might be a side affect of the vet profen medicine he is on. Have a vet appointment next week. Not sure if he is a good candidate for surgery since he vomits pain medicine whenever he is put on one.

I'm sorry to hear that Capi is having problem with his hip. Unfortunately, vomiting is one of the potential side effects of Vetprofen. I am attaching a link to a handout about this drug below. https://www.vin.com/apputil/project/defaultadv1.aspx?pId=19239&SAId=1&id=4951499 I generally recommend to stop the medication and call your veterinarian anytime there is any vomiting that might be due to the drug. There are other drugs that you can consider for pain relief, so I would talk to your veterinarian to try to find a medication that works well for Capi. I am attaching more information with additional options below. https://www.vin.com/apputil/project/defaultadv1.aspx?pId=19239&SAId=1&id=4951467 Good luck! I hope that was helpful.
